Google Analytics for Android now available in the Google Play Store

Google Analytics
There is a countless number of websites out there on the internet these days and chances are if you're the owner of one who is seriously interested in maintaining it, you're looking at your traffic on a daily basis. One such service for doing so is Google Analytics and for a long time now, Google has ignored putting out an Android app for the service. That ends now though, as Google Analytics is available for download in the Google Play Store. The feature set looks nice though, it does seem to be a little short with this first iteration:
  • Real-Time: See the number of visitors you currently have and a list of the pages (for websites) or screens (for apps) that are currently popular.
  • Dashboard: Monitor the KPIs and user metrics you care about the most. By default, you’ll see your Daily Unique Visitors and your Goal Conversion Rate, but you can customize the dashboard to change which reports, metrics, or segments you see.
  • Automatic and Customized Alerts: Google Analytics detects statistical anomalies in your data and can send you an alert when something unusual happens. See either automatic alerts, or customize your settings to send alerts based on your own benchmarks.
No doubt Google will expand the effort here once they get some feedback but one major gripe right now is the fact you can only use the accounts on your device for access. So if your Google Analytics account is associated to an email you don't use often, you'll need to add it to your device in order to view the information. Overall though, it looks pretty sharp and is certainly useful for pulling stats on the go.

The Amazing Spider-Man now available for $7 in the Google Play Store

Gameloft’s made The Amazing Spider-Man available in the Google Play Store starting today. For $7 you’re getting what looks to be one of Gameloft’s better games. With 25 missions taking place in Peter Parker’s city of origina, New York City.
You can jump from rooftop to rooftop using your web, and you can also use that same web to fend off the foes standing in Spider-Man’s way.
We hear this game plays a lot like Web of Shadows, a console game that wasn’t all that bad. Go ahead and check it out in the Play Store if you’re not against coughing up the money.

Adobe will soon disallow new Flash Mobile installs and will not support Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Adobe have announced that their mobile Flash solution for Android will soon be restricted in ways that many of us can’t help. This past November it was announced that the plugin would no longer be actively developed.
This didn’t mean that it would be unavailable in the Play Store, but Adobe wasn’t going to support it save for critical bug fixes.
Adobe made it seem as if the plugin wouldn’t come to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but it eventually did. It seems Adobe’s seriously serious about getting rid of it come August 15th, though, as they will be restricting new downloads of the plugin in the Google Play Store.
If you grab it now and keep it on your device you’ll continue to receive security updates, but if you want it at any point after that you won’t be able to go through the official channels.
And Adobe doesn’t recommend installing the plugin on Jelly Bean as they won’t be testing it with the update and are unsure how it will affect performance and stability.
Some people may still get Flash Mobile or Flash Lite support through their OEMs’ efforts, but Adobe itself isn’t going to have its hands in the mobile space anymore.
In short, if you want Flash you’d better download it now. And if you want to keep it, don’t do a factory reset or get a new device.
Oh, and if you have Jelly Bean feel free to install the plugin, but don’t come to us for support because Flash Mobile is now the red-headed step child. [via Adobe]

HTC One V now available from Virgin Mobile

Rounding out the US launch of the HTC One lineup, the retro-inspired HTC One V has launched over at Virgin Mobile. The Ice Cream Sandwich device shares its Sense 4.0 software with big brothers the HTC One X and HTC One S, but other specs place the phone in a lower tier. It features a 1GHz Snapdragon S3 processor, 3.7-inch display, and 5MP camera. What stands out about the One V, though, is its design that harkens back to older HTC handsets, including the protruding “chin” of models like the Hero and G1.
The HTC One V is available contract-free from Virgin Mobile today for the affordable price of $199.99. Other than it’s low cost, the name makes it a perfect fit.

Sprint pushing first software update to Samsung Galaxy S III

Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy S3 isn’t even in the hands of all customers who ordered one, but its first over-the-air software update is ready to be installed. The update is nothing major; the results of which will likely go unnoticed. The singular item in the changelog? A security update. The minor patch will bring the phone’s software to version L710VPLF9 and is going out today. Those purchasing a new Galaxy S III will receive the update after completing activation.

Sony NSZ-GS7 Google TV Blu-Ray player coming to Canada August 13th

Folks in Canada will be able to own the Sony NSZ-GS7 Blu-Ray player that comes equipped with Google TV August 13th. Sony’s started taking pre-orders for the device this past Wednesday if you want to stake your claim to one.
With it will be a standard Blu-Ray player with an internet experience that will only get better from here. It comes with a very interesting dual-sided remote that’ll be great for navigating Google TV and the web.
Head to Sony’s site or head to your local Sony shop if you’re interested. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our review of the player here. [via CBC]

Madfinger Games’ Dead Trigger coming to Google Play on July 2

Madfinger Games, the folks behind popular title Shadow Gun, will release their zombie-fied first person shooter Dead Trigger on the Google Play Store on July 2nd. We had a chance to check out the horror game at this year’s E3, and it looks absolutely stunning. Graphics are right up there with the best and gameplay wasn’t too shabby either. Given Madfingers track record we are eager to give the full game a spin. Check out the latest trailer below.

Own the Droid RAZR or Droid MAXX with Verizon and still haven’t received your update to Android 4.0? Tomorrow is your lucky day. According to the twitterings of one VZW rep, on June 30th all users can access their system setting and navigate to the software update dialog to be bumped up to the latest version of Android. In case you aren’t near a calendar, that’s tomorrow.
Provided this goes through as stated, it should end the prolonged wait some users have been experiencing. And with that the long road to Ice Cream Sandwich will end for Droid RAZR owners.

HTC on Jelly Bean updates

So you just got that shiny, new HTC One X or One S (or One V outside the U.S.), and suddenly it's no longer running the latest version of Android. That's no good. Neither is it HTC's fault, but still.
So what does the Taiwanese manufacturer have planned in the way of updates for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean? Here's the official word:
"We are excited about Android Jelly Bean and are planning to support it across a variety of our devices.  We are reviewing the software to determine our upgrade plans and schedule, so please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans."
Nothing surprising there. It's a pretty safe bet that we'll see the HTC One line get updates. But after that? And how long will it take?

Mozilla takes the covers off a faster, more powerful Firefox for Android

Firefox for Android
Just last week Mozilla took to Twitter to announce something big for Android was coming our way. Of course, the Firefox logo being used in the promotional material was a dead give way but that didn't stop the speculation from happening. With it now being "next week", Mozilla has taken the covers off what they had to announce and sure enough (as some guessed and was earlier confirmed) it's a revamping of Firefox for Android.
Moving out of beta status, the latest Firefox for Android boasts plenty of improvements over previously available versions. In fact, the Firefox development team has gone ahead and redesigned the whole thing. Faster browsing, better security, better memory management plus, much more. To put it simply -- a completely re-engineered Firefox for Android.
Having put previous versions to the test and living the re-engineered version for the past few days, it's easy for me to say this latest release is more in line with what one would have expected from the Firefox team with their Android offerings. Pages render much better now thanks to the code being native and Firefox making use of the GPU directly, while text looks as it should even on smaller screened devices and crazy zoomed in rendering no longer happens even on larger devices, like the Samsung Galaxy Note.
If you've given Firefox a go before and ended up ditching it for lack of flash (which by the way, is now included), poor memory management or bad rendering, go ahead and give the latest release a try. The update is available for download right now in the Google Play Store and let us know your thoughts on how the Firefox for Android team did with this version. If you need some video it in action, jump below where you'll a overview video along with the full press release from Mozilla.

Ematic announce the eGlide Pro X tablet and it is cheap!

Android Central
Ematic have today announced their latest budget tablet, the eGlide Pro X. Running Android 4.0, the 4:3 9.7 inch tablet is retailing for a remarkably low price of only $219.99.
With the budget tablet market geared up for what Google has to offer this week the eGlide Pro X could well be a contender as its specs are not to be sniffed at.
Packing a 1.2GHz processor, 400MHz GPU and 1GB RAM, Ice Cream Sandwich should flow nicely on the new tablet.
Combined with 8GB of internal storage, 5GB of available cloud storage and MicroSD support up to 32GB of storage the eGlide Pro X sounds pretty interesting.

Tweetcaster receives sizable upgrade in the Google Play Store

Tweetcaster for Android is yet another app being upgraded in today’s rounds of Google Play Store updates. OneLouder have fixed the usual crop of bugs, but they’ve also introduced some interesting new things. You can now zip retweets from a particular user or their source, use Search Party and My Stats on tablets, find new friends using a “similar friends” feature, read tweets later with Readability, photo preview support for imgur, and a whole heaping of other changes to get dirty with. Get the goods in the Google Play Store.

Firefox Beta for Android Updated – Bug Fixes and Stability, Flash Support Still Going Strong

Sliding in just before their “big” announcement at Google I/O, Firefox Beta has been updated for Android devices. Update: Although Mozilla’s changelog lists Flash as new to this update, apparently it was added last month. We do know that app was updated on the 22nd with the usual bug fixes that for some, add stability (but still no copy/paste functionality).
The UI for Firefox Beta has also been redesigned although, and although a bit of an eyesore, it’s supposed to be more intuitive. Mozilla is also touting the new Firefox Beta as faster than the stock Android browser but I guess you’ll have to try it and see for yourself.
When it comes to Flash, keep in mind pre-ICS Tegra 2 devices and tablets are not supported in this version. Oh, and Mozilla has updated the minimum requirements to Android 2.2+ devices for an “optimal experience.”
Seeing as how Firefox Beta for Android was just updated a few days ago, I have a feeling Mozilla has something completely different up their sleeves for I/O. B2G perhaps? No saying for sure, but we’ll keep you updated. You can find the newest version of Firefox Beta via the link below. Let me know if you’ve noticed any stability improvements.

Free to Play MMORPG Dragon Eternity Looks Promising – Coming Soon To Android

Another cross platform, “free-to-play” MMORPG is soon headed to Android devices, this time by publisher Game Insight. The game is called Dragon Eternity, and it will allow players on Android, iOS and HTML5 capable browsers to battle along side each other in a fantasy-based MMO adventure.
With over 500 different monsters to vanquish, there are definitely no shortage of enemies in Dragon Eternity. Players can choose between 3 character classes but by equipping various items collected throughout the game, can customize these characters with magic such as Berserk (Fire), Witcher (Earth) or Paladin (Order) in order to progress. PvP also makes the cut for those that wish to gain experience points by challenging other players.
Thousands of quests, countless ways to level up, 10 different mounts and more items than you can shake a stick at, Dragon Eternity will suck in more than a few Android users looking for a new online addiction. The web-based version of Dragon Eternity is already in its beta stage with over one million players. We’ll let you know as soon as it hits the Play Store.

Huawei Ascend D Quad delayed until August due to SoC issues

When the Huawei Ascend D Quad was introduced this past February in Barcelona we didn’t think we’d be waiting until the summer months for its release. But it got pushed back to a possible July date, and we thought its arrival was almost certain.
Now, more bad news puts the release date at some point in August. Huawei themselves have confirmed that their own-built quad-core chipset has encountered some technical difficulties.
For that, the delay isn’t too surprising considering that’s the most important component for any phone, but we’re no less disappointed. Huawei had a real opportunity to supplant itself as a premium OEM with this release, but their inability to get the device out in time seems to be hurting that chance.
Quad-core options powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 have since been available in other OEMs’ handsets, and we’re sure Qualcomm is not too far behind with their own.
Huawei may still have one of the most powerful devices when it launches, but we can’t imagine anyone waiting for the phone are willing to wait much longer considering the options HTC and Samsung are coming to town with. [CMNO via Unwired View]

Android 4.0 Update For RAZR/RAZR MAXX Is Finally Official

After months of leaks and rumors, it looks like the Android 4.0.4 update for the Motorola DROID RAZRand RAZR MAXX is finally official. We don’t have an official press release from Verizon, but all the details can be found on Motorola’s official site, complete with walkthrough videos highlighting all the new features users will be able to take advantage of with Ice Cream Sandwich.
I don’t even personally own the device, but I honestly couldn’t be happier for you guys. The 6.16.211 update isn’t exactly being pushed out over-the-air just yet, but we’d expect that should change in the coming days. I’m sure that wont keep you from manually checking everyday though. It’s almost here, guys!

Atari Releases Centipede: Origins For Android – Remakes The Classic With Bright, Colorful, HD Graphics

Atari has just released their second title to hit the Google Play Store with arcade classic “Centipede: Origins.” Okay, while the game follows the “classic” Centipede gameplay we all know and love, the game has (thankfully) gotten a complete facelift. More of a reboot, you can now expect high-res, HD visuals, along with vibrant colors and sounds. The story has been tweaked a bit as well. Centipede Originas features a normally, peace loving lawn gnome, who is forced to take action when centipedes and other hostile creatures begin invading his garden. Never mess with a lawn gnome’s garden. Never.

Bringing Centipede into the 21st century, you can gain new weapons and power-ups to aid you on your quest to rid your backyard of the onslaught vermin. Here’s some of the features with more promised to be added in the future:

  • 4 playable levels including Bumpkinpatch Gardens, Bumpkinpatch Aerial, Tarpit Excavation, Valley of Flowers and others that can be purchased as you progress through the game!
You can find Centipede: Origins right now in the Google Play Store for the low price of only $1.

Toshiba Thrive and Thrive 7 ICS update delayed until early Fall

Some bad news just came down the pipeline for you Toshiba Thrive and Toshiba Thrive 7 owners. Ice Cream Sandwich looks like it won’t be here to refresh you this summer after a swing-and-a-miss on a Spring window.
Instead, Toshiba are electing to push the upgrade all the way back to early Fall. Yep, go ahead and let those groans out. Unfortunately we didn’t get any word as to why the update was pushed back.
We’re sure there are bugs to be squashed, but this seems rather long for a delay.  Perhaps Toshiba’s customizations weren’t as easily adaptable to ICS, or perhaps they just have other things to worry about at the moment.
Whatever the case may be, it’s left in dead water until the festive Autumn months arrive. In the meantime, I’m sure XDA and RootzWiki will take care of you quite nicely. [Toshibathanks Joel!]
We are working hard to bring Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich to our Thrive tablets. While we originally estimated it would be ready this spring, we now estimate the update will be delivered to all Thrive 10" and 7" tablets by early fall. Apologies for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

HTC One XXL Specs Revealed In Leaked Screenshot? – Quad-Core S4 Processor, 2GB RAM, 4.7-inch Display [Rumor]

Here’s a nice little late-night rumor for you to dream about while you slumber. There’s been some talk that HTC is readying a 5.3-inch Galaxy Note challenger of their own by the name of the One XXL (double x’s for a double dose of pimpin’). Other than its gargantuan size, we really haven’t heard much else.
Well, a new leak is flipping everything we once thought, showing us that the HTC One XXL might not be 5.3-inch device we hoped for. Instead, it could be a souped up version of the HTC One XL (our version of the international Tegra 3 One X). The details were “revealed” in the below screenshot (top image is just concept art) and shows off all the specs that make a Phandroid’s heart flutter. We got a 4.7-inch display,quad-core Qualcomm S4 processor, 2GB of RAM,  8MP camera and 1.8MP front facing camera.
Of course, this sorta stuff is pretty easy to fake with a little time on your hands, and a few simple XML edits. Still, I can’t help but think if this device were true, and it comes to Verizon/Sprint/T-Mobile later this year, maybe that would take some of the sting out of missing out on the regular old One X. Wouldn’t you agree? Grain of salt, people!

Amazon Appstore now accepting apps from more European countries

Amazon have announced that developers in more European countries can begin distributing their apps in the Amazon Appstore for Android.
Developers in Spain, Italy, France, Germany, and the UK will no longer be forced to work around this limitation — they will be able to get their very own developers’ account in their own country. In addition to that, Amazon have announced new changes to their app distribution agreement.
  • Amazon is aligning the revenue share for paid apps with that for in-app products sold using Amazon’s In-App Purchasing Service. Starting on July 1, developers will earn 70 percent of list price on each paid app sale.
  • Developers can now control which apps they will make available to Amazon customers, and when, providing more flexibility around timing for app submissions.
Sounds like great changes to me, and this is even more reason for developers to get on-board with the Amazon Appstore. Find more details about submitting apps here if you’re a European developer, and you can find more details about the changes to the distribution agreement here.

Samsung to begin official Ice Cream Sandwich update push for Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9, 7.7, and 7.0 Plus next month

Samsung is just weeks away from unleashing Android 4.0 for their stable of tablets, with the update planned to go live sometime next month. SamMobile is reporting that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7, and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus are all on the docket to receive the update in July, with the bulk of devices actually receiving Ice Cream Sandwich in August. The timing seems about right, as Samsung is still working to get the latest version of Android to many of their more recent devices and in all regions. Galaxy Tab owners will be grateful that the wait will soon be over.

Motorola RAZR MAXX and RAZR V head to India, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailad

Motorola’s expanding their RAZR line’s presence to other parts of the globe. Today, two new options were announced to be headed to a number of Asian countries. Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and India will all be getting the Motorola RAZR MAXX, which have specs similar to Verizon’s version, and the RAZR V, an affordable option that still packs a decent punch.
The former sports a 4.3 inch display, an 8 megapixel HD camera, and will be just as slim as Verizon’s at 8.99mm thin. The internal radios will be different, of course, but that’s pretty much the only discrepancy.
As for the latter, it is an 8.35mm thin build with a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor. Consumers can purchase the RAZR MAXX starting tomorrow, with the RAZR V coming Q3 2012. Read on for full press details.

And while Motorola RAZR V comes at a surprisingly affordable price, it gives away nothing in performance, thanks to a dual-core 1.2GHz processor.
Unique to Motorola Mobility smartphones, including Motorola RAZR MAXX and Motorola RAZR V is Smart Actions - a tool that lets you automate your phone’s settings throughout the day. For example, you can set your phone to automatically turn off its ringer when you get home from work and set it to turn off email while you sleep, or dim the screen when battery life gets below 30 percent. Essentially, Smart Actions manages all the little things that add up to make all the difference in the world - all the while extending your phone’s already long battery life.

More Samsung Galaxy S3 ads appear

Samsung’s releasing an onslaught of ads for the Galaxy S3′s eventual US launch. Two more have hit YouTube today, and the theme remains: how can the next big thing help you in your every day life? One quick 15 second video goes the more humorous route, however, as two friends respond “you can’t do that” to a guy texting and watching a video at the same time. If you need even more material to move you to buy this phone, be sure to check out the videos above and below.

Max Payne for Android finally coming June 14th?

Rockstar have set a date of June 14th for the arrival of Max Payne. Yes, the news was official but I used a question mark in the title because we had an official date before — April 26th — and they ended up delaying the game. The delay was originally a week or so, but that week came and went with nary a peep from the critically acclaimed developer.
But they’re finally ready to announce a new date, and we have a feeling this one is solid. June 14th, a Thursday, users will be able to take control of Max Payne, a DEA agent who’s involuntarily taken on a personal journey in a dark, creepy story. For just $3 you get to relive this PS2 and PC classic, but only on the following devices for the time being:
Supported Android Phones: Motorola Razr,  Razr Maxx, Motorola Atrix, Motorola Photon,Motorola DROID BIONICHTC RezoundHTC One X,   HTC One S,   HTC EVO 3DHTC SensationHTC Droid Incredible 2,   Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung S2, Samsung Galaxy R, Sony Xperia Play, Sony Xperia S, Sony Walkman Z Series Media Player
Supported Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime, Dell Streak 7, LG Optimus Pad, Medion Lifetab, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 / 10.1, Sony Tablet S, Sony Tablet P, Toshiba Thrive, HTC Flyer, HTC Jetstream
That list may or may not grow, but there’s a pretty decent selection of devices that can run the game. We’ll be sure to let you know the moment the game goes live in the Google Play Store later this week. [viaRockstar]

AT&T Galaxy S3 shipping on or before June 21st

We may have gotten a bit more insight into AT&T’s Galaxy S3 launch plans. When confirming presales for the device, users are being told that the device would ship on or before June 21st. June 21st seems to be the universal launch date for all carriers here in the United States so we’re not terribly shocked by this revelation. It’s nice to have a bit more concrete proof that we’ll be  seeing this available everywhere before the end of the month, and we couldn’t be any happier at how this launch is going. Is anyone picking one up for use on Ma Bell? [via BGR]

Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX Is The Top Selling Smartphone On Verizon Wireless (Sorry, iPhone)

Don’t believe the hype, it appears that while the iPhone 4S may be the top phone in the US, this trend does NOT translate to Verizon Wireless, the largest carrier here in the states. According to one analyst, it looks like that title belongs solely to the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX, who has found itself the top-selling smartphone on Verizon Wireless. Guess Motorola has been doing quite well for themselves after all, huh?
According to the report, there are a few reasons behind this. Verizon has been aggressively marketing their blazing fast 4G network and given the 4S doesn’t exactly feature radios compatible with the carrier’s LTE bands, it’s been left behind in the dust. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see if consumer demand will change once the updated iPhone 5 drops (and once again, plays catch up to Android).
I think this is also a testament to the Droid Maxx’s biggest selling feature which, if you ask me, wasn’t its 4G capabilities, but promised all-day battery life. I hope all the other Android OEM’s are taking note. What consumers really want is long lasting battery life, and 3,000mAh should become the new standard. That is, if you really want our hard earned money. Real talk.

Lamborghini joins the luxury Android market with its new smartphones, made of gold and crocodile skin

Those that can afford it find ways to stand out from the crowd. Many of us can purchase the best smartphones in the market, but can we pocket out $2,750 for a phone made of gold and crocodile skin? Lamborghini is sure that some of you can and has decided to manufacture luxurious Android smartphones and tablets running at that price-point.
These devices are the Lamborghini TL700 (smartphone) and the Lamborghini L2800 (tablet). And just like its competition (Tag Heuer being the most popular), the specs of the device are not even close to being considered high-end.

Lamborghini TL700 – $2750

  • Android 2.3
  • 3.7 inch WVGA sapphire crystal display
  • Qualcomm processor of unknown speed
  • 5MP rear camera
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • 4GB of internal memory
  • 1,400 mAh battery

Lamborghini L2800 – $2290

  • Android 2.3
  • 9.7 inch, 1024 x 768 pixels sapphire display
  • 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor (probably single core)
  • 5MP rear camera
  • 4GB of internal memory
  • MicroSD card support
  • Pair of speakers on the back
It is sad to see Android 2.3 in a smartphone being announced during mid-2012, but it is depressing to see the same for a tablet. Especially one that is going for almost $2300. But if you have the money and really like a phone with good aesthetics, these devices will be available next August in Russia. There is no mention of it coming to other markets, but we are sure you wouldn’t mind importing it for a bit more cash.
What do you guys say? Would you buy any of these luxury devices? I am more of a functionality guy, so I would rather get a normal device with stunning specs. Even if I had an unlimited amount of cash (in some alternate universe).
