Samsung Begins Mass Producing Uber Fast 64GB NAND Flash Memory for Smartphones and Tablets

If you thought a screaming fast processor was the only way your Android devices were going to continue picking up speed, you’d be wrong. Remember, those apps you’re constantly switching between are stored in your devices RAM, and the speed at which they’re able to kick back up, has a lot to do with the speed of your memory. It’s a good thing Samsung has started production of their all new Pro Class 1500 high-speed embedded memory (eMMC). The Pro Class 1500 can hit read speeds of up to 140MB per second, and write speeds of up to 50MB/s. That’s roughly 4 times faster than any of Samsung’s previous chips and the fastest in the industry.
The new high-speed memory takes advantage of Samsung’s 20nm manufacturing process, and will make its way into smartphones and tablets in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities. Although it’d be easy to assume that Samsung would be saving all these chips for the Galaxy S4, let’s not forget that — despite all the recent legal drama — Samsung’s biggest customer is, you guessed it, Apple. Funny world we live in, huh?
